Via Real Reopening Soon

Work is nearly complete on the emergency repair project prompted by a fire that took place in February in the Via Real drainage system near Carpinteria Creek. Vehicular access of the roadway will resume on April 22, and crews are expected to finish the work at the end of April. A sidewalk is now open for pedestrian use, and bicyclists can walk bikes on the sidewalk. Caltrans and the City of Carpinteria have installed new concrete drainage pipes to replace damaged portions of the system. Work will continue on pavement repairs, relining drainage pipes under Highway 101, safety barriers, irrigation repairs, and lighting connections. Please expect flagging in the area until construction is complete at the end of the month.
