Swim Team & Water Polo Tryouts: Jan. 25

It’s Swim Team and Water Polo Tryout time! The Carpinteria Aquatics Club will hold swim tryouts on Thursday, Jan. 25 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Carpinteria Community Pool, 5305 Carpinteria Ave. Anyone interested in playing water polo must attend the swim tryout and stay for water polo consideration from 4:30 to 5 p.m. Our Swim Team is for ages 6 to 17, and participants must have swim skills prior to becoming a team member. Anyone with questions should email johns@carpinteriaca.gov

Make your own hydrosol: Jan. 27

Carpinteria Community Garden will host a free DIY Hydrosol Workshop on Saturday, Jan. 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 4855 5th Street. Hydrosols are water-based products, often used in skin care or aromatherapy, that are made from the distillation of fresh flowers or other plant materials. Workshop participants will harvest rose geraniums and distill a hydrosol with a home distillation kit. RSVP to carpgarden@carpinteriaca.gov to reserve a space in the workshop. Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch to enjoy in the garden.

City Council to meet Jan. 22

ARB to review resort & residential development proposal for Bluffs 1

The Carpinteria Architectural Review Board will meet on Thursday, Jan. 25 at 5:30 p.m. to hold a preliminary review of a request to construct a new 99-room resort with associated amenities, a 41-unit apartment complex, and recreational trail improvements on Bluffs 1 parcels addressed as 5669 and 5885 Carpinteria Ave. The project would include the removal of 108 trees, new landscaping, and habitat restoration. The property is 27.5 acres in size and zoned Planned Unit Development (PUD).

This will be an in-person meeting in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 5775 Carpinteria Ave. The agenda, located at https://bit.ly/423DHhw, includes detailed information on how to participate and how to submit public comment. Sandbags available at City Hall

A storm system is expected to arrive this evening, Friday, bringing periods of moderate rainfall and possible thunderstorms Sunday and Monday. To keep residents prepared for storm impacts, our do-it-yourself sandbag station is open around the clock. It’s located in our Public Works yard at the back of the City Hall property, 5775 Carpinteria Ave.

Today many homes on the Central Coast use natural gas or propane to power heating at home, like space heating, water heating, cooking and drying clothes. The great news is it’s now easier than ever to power our homes with clean, climate safe renewable energy. Resilient Central Coast, in partnership with 3C-REN, is offering a free Home Electrification Workshop to learn about the important first steps to creating a clean energy home on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. The discussion will include resources and services available to help residents—from home evaluations and electrical system check-ups to working with contractors and stacking rebates and incentives. City Council & Planning Commission to hear state housing update

The Carpinteria City Council and Planning Commission will hold a special joint meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall. The meeting will provide the decision-makers with an update on new state housing laws taking effect in 2024.

In accordance with State guidance, the City will provide both in-person and virtual attendance and participation options for the meeting. Public comment extended for Chevron decommissioning project’s Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR)

The public comment period has been extended to Jan. 31 for the Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) released for Chevron’s decommissioning project. Chevron is working to secure permits to decommission and remediate its Carpinteria Oil and Gas Processing Facility. The Decommissioning Project would demolish and remove surface and subsurface facilities and then remediate impacted soils and groundwater at the onshore Carpinteria Oil and Gas Processing Facility, located on Dump Road. The project also includes the demolition and removal of offshore pipelines associated with the facility located within State Waters. The Draft EIR describes the proposed project, identifies its potential environmental effects and proposed mitigation measures, and considers possible project alternatives.
