Temporary closures at Monte Vista Dog Park

Gopher abatement begins at Monte Vista Dog Park on Tuesday, Oct. 14 from 8 – 8:30 and will continue every Tuesday morning until gopher activity subsides.

The park will close briefly for 30 minutes while the non-toxic, environmentally safe treament takes place.

Thank you for your patience while we work to keep our dog park safe and fun for running and playing!

City Council to meet Oct. 13

Parks close temporarily for delivery

Four of our local parks will close briefly to allow for new wood chips to be spread. The times listed below are approximate; please be patient with our crews if the work requires additional time.

Monday, Oct. 6 :

  • Carpinteria Creek Park: Closed 7 a.m. – Noon
  • El Carro Park: Closed 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 7:

  • Franklin Creek Park: Closed 7 a.m. – Noon
  • Tomol Interpretive Park: Closed 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Planning Commission to consider Aliso kindergarten classrooms

The Carpinteria Planning Commission will consider a proposal for a new kindergarten building at Aliso School during its next regular meeting on Monday, Oct. 6 at 5:30 p.m. The applicant, Carpinteria Unified School District, is seeking to build a new single-story 6,467-square-foot classroom building on the eastern side of the Aliso Elementary School campus, and to remove portable structures on the west side of the campus.

Avofest comes to town Oct. 3-5

The California Avocado Festival, a three-day celebration of Carpinteria’s favorite fruit, will bring dozens of bands, arts and crafts and commercial vendors, and food vendors to town from Oct. 3 to 5.

In preparation for a party that draws over 50,000 guests, our Public Works Department will implement street closures beginning on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 5:30 a.m. Roadways will reopen to traffic on Sunday, Oct. 5 by 11 p.m. The closure will span Linden Avenue from Carpinteria Avenue to Sixth Street. Side streets through this stretch of Linden are closed to all but local traffic; drivers will still be able to access businesses like Smart & Final.

Announcement: Overnight Trail Closure

A portion of the Carpinteria Bluffs Trail  will be closed from Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. to Oct. 3 at sunrise to allow SCE to replace utility pole equipment overnight. The section of trail that will be temporarily closed is located just east of Dump Road. We apologize for any inconvenience this will cause.

Frida festivities moved to Library

Come by the Carpinteria Community Library on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in your Frida Kahlo finery to Celebrate Carpinteria and Hispanic Heritage Month! We’ll be making Frida pins, painting on mini canvases, and creating colorful Mexican paper flowers. Everyone who attends gets a bag of fresh popcorn from our popcorn machine, and if you come dressed as Frida you’ll receive a special gift. (Sorry, no pets!)

Carpinteria City Hall will be temporarily closed during the following times for staff meetings:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 23,  11:30 AM – 1 PM
  • Thursday, Oct. 2, 8:30 – 10:30 AM
