Construction of the Winter Protection Berm is taking place this week between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. as weather and tides permit.

For public safety, beach users are advised to avoid the area while tractor work is underway. The berm is built annually at City Beach to protect private and public properties from potentially damaging winter storms. Its cost is shared between the City and the homeowners on Sandyland.

Dozens of future leaders were honored by the Carpinteria City Council on the evening of Nov. 10 for earning their Gold Card at the Carpinteria Boys and Girls Club. Club members become eligible for a Gold Card when they have attended the local club for 105 days or more. The City of Carpinteria applauds the Boys and Girls Club for creating a positive experience for our youth and celebrates each member who has achieved the exclusive Gold Card status.

In observance of Veteran’s Day, the City of Carpinteria’s facilities and programs will experience scheduling changes. Most facilities (including City Hall, Carpinteria Community Library and Carpinteria Community Pool) will be closed for the holiday.

We’re looking for part-time Recreation Leaders to join our team of City employees. These are the positions we are seeking to fill:

• City Hall Front Desk: This role is customer service–focused and interacts directly with the public. Bilingual skills are highly preferred.
• Facilities Attendants (multiple openings): These positions support our rentals at Veterans Memorial Hall and potentially other facilities throughout the City. Duties include setting up and breaking down for events, greeting renters, being on-site during their use, and ensuring the facility is secured at the end of each rental.

• Authorize a member of the City Council and the City Manager to present in-person public comment on behalf of the Council at the November 6, 2025 meeting of the California Coastal Commission (CCC), regarding the rezoning of three sites in the unincorporated Carpinteria Valley to multifamily residential use; and provide direction to City staff on a proposed comment letter to the CCC regarding the County rezone sites.

In honor of veterans, a special event entitled Portraits of Life After Service will highlight the experiences, perspectives, and ongoing contributions of veterans and first responders through the art of photography. Presented in partnership with our AgeWell program and the Santa Barbara City College School of Extended Learning, the free event will take place on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Alcazar Theatre, 4916 Carpinteria Ave.

Attendees will view a curated slideshow of original photographs taken by participants in a community-based photography class designed specifically for veterans, first responders, and their families. Guided by instructors Bill and Steve Espinosa, participants have captured powerful and personal images that reflect a wide range of stories and life beyond the uniform.

The evening will also include brief storytelling and short panel discussions with featured photographers, offering insight into how artistic expression and community connection continue to shape their lives and work.
