In great news for local skaters old and young, ground broke on the Carpinteria Skate Park on May 10. Having cleared design, permitting and fundraising hurdles, representatives from the Carpinteria Skate Foundation provided the City of Carpinteria with $1.05 million toward the construction costs for the future park. The first phase of construction involves the demolition of the former Thunderbowl Roller Rink. After that, the world-class skate park will be built adjacent to City Hall at 5775 Carpinteria Ave.
