City recognizes International Dark Sky Week

The City of Carpinteria recognizes April 15-22 as International Dark Sky Week due to the many benefits of a star-filled night sky uninterrupted by light pollution. A starry sky offers beauty and wonder and fosters a growing interest in science and nature. Light pollution not only impacts the ability to see stars, but has scientifically established economic and environmental consequences. The City’s General Plan/Local Coastal Land Use Plan ensures that lighting of new development minimizes photopollution and potential impacts to habitats.
