Get Connected Carpinteria: Low Cost Home Internet

Home Internet can be FREE with the ACP discount! The federal Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) helps eligible families afford high-quality home internet at a lower cost. Get Connected Carpinteria, an ACP enrollment event, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 27, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Carpinteria Community Library, 5141 Carpinteria Ave. Spanish language speakers will be available to help with the process, which should only take about 20 minutes. Please bring the following 1) identification, and 2) proof of eligibility in the form of a monthly WIC, MediCal or CalFresh statement, proof of enrollment in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) at CEP designated school, or a Pell Grant Award Letter for the current year.

Library Launches “Mind Games”

Sometimes we forget that it’s just as important to exercise our brains as it is our bodies. To help locals flex their mental muscles, the Carpinteria Community library has introduced “Mind Games,” a fun supportive class that focuses on keeping your thinker in tip top shape. Jena holds a masters in psychology and will lead you in this fun brain fitness course utilizing puzzles, games, brain exercises, problem-solving activities and so much more, all designed to improve whole brain health. This free program takes place on Wednesdays at 2 p.m. at the Carpinteria Community Library, 5141 Carpinteria Ave.

Free Tennis Sundays Start Now

The Carpinteria Community Tennis Courts are now open and free for use on a first-come, first-served basis on Sundays. Pickleball players must bring their own gear, including nets, on Sundays. During the rest of the week, tennis and pickleball players may access the courts by making a reservation online at https://carpinteriaca.gov/parks-and-recreation/ and going through the Carpinteria Community Pool at 5305 Carpinteria Ave. to pay and pick up pickleball equipment and access information. Please note that the Community Tennis Courts are available to the public during the hours when school is not in session. For questions, contact the Community Pool at (805) 566-2417.

Town Hall Meeting to Focus on Monkeypox

Writers, We Have a Group for You!

The Carpinteria Writers Group is free and open to the public. Poets, novelists, bloggers, nonfiction writers, short story writers as well as people working on their memoirs are all welcome. Some members are published, others wish to be, and some write for their own amusement or to pass on their history to family members.

Those who want to read may do so; their time is limited only by the number of other members wishing to read. The group members can then comment on the pieces with supportive and helpful suggestions. If you’re interested, please join us on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon at the Carpinteria Community Library, 5141 Carpinteria Ave.

City Seeks Foster Parents for Stray Animals

Are you looking for some furry companionship? We are looking for foster families for stray pets found in Carpinteria. There is currently a foster family shortage in Carpinteria, and we would like to meet with Carpinterians interested in volunteering. The ideal foster parents are comfortable with animals, able to walk dogs and have a secure yard and indoor area suitable for pets. Free Swim Team Try-outs Aug. 16 & 18

Come try our swim team for free! Ages 5-17 are invited to a Carpinteria Aquatics Club swim team try-out on Tuesday and Thursday, Aug. 16 and 18, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Try-outs will take place at the Carpinteria Community Pool, 5305 Carpinteria Ave. Participants must be ready to swim laps; this program focuses on teaching stroke techniques and is not a “learn to swim” program. City Council to Meet Aug. 8

The Carpinteria City Council will hold its next regular meeting on Monday, Aug. 8 at 5:30 p.m. In accordance with State guidance, the City will provide both in-person and virtual attendance and participation options for the meeting.
