Public invited to 9/11 Memorial

Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District will hold its annual 9/11 Memorial ceremony on Monday, Sept. 11 at 9 a.m. at the Carpinteria Fire Station, 911 Walnut Ave. The brief ceremony will serve to remember loved ones lost in the tragic events of September 11, 2001. All members of the public are invited to attend.

City Council to meet Sept. 11

The Carpinteria City Council will hold its next regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m. Members of the public may attend the meeting at City Hall, 5775 Carpinteria Ave., or view the meeting live at https://carpinteriaca.gov/, on Government Access Television Channel 21 or by logging into the Zoom webinar.

  • Request to waive accrued interest on the property lien at 4745 Carpinteria Avenue related to an unpaid assessment from 1981.
  • Amendment to the lease with Chevron U.S.A., Inc. for Submerged Pipelines Serving Platforms Gail and Grace in City Submerged Lands.
  • Special Event Permit Application for the 2023 California Avocado Festival.
  • Amendment of the Carpinteria Municipal Code to add regulations pertaining to scooter use at the Carpinteria Skate Park, 5781 Carpinteria Avenue.
  • An urgency ordinance adding Chapter 7.04 (“Just Cause for Termination of Residential Tenancy”) to a new Title 7 (“Housing Regulations”) of the Carpinteria Municipal Code.

Join us on Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 9 am to noon at any of the following locations in the City of Carpinteria: Carpinteria State Beach, Jelly Bowl Beach, and Franklin Creek Park.

We need your help to clean our local beaches and inland areas! Learn how to participate at ExploreEcology.org/CCD. Please bring your own supplies. For trash disposal, 5-gallon buckets or grocery bags work well.

Videos celebrate Skate Park Opening

Much to the delight of the community, the Carpinteria Skate Park officially opened on Aug. 25 with a ribbon cutting and ceremony at the new park located next to City Hall. HopeNet Candlelight Vigil planned for Sept. 10

HopeNet of Carpinteria will hold its annual Candlelight Vigil in recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2023 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the courtyard of the Lynda Fairly Carpinteria Arts Center, 865 Linden Ave. The event honors the memory of those who have died by suicide, survivors, and those impacted by suicide. It also increases awareness and sensitivity relative to mental wellness, suicide and suicide prevention. It is free, and Spanish translation will be available.

City lifeguards paddle for Ben Carson Memorial

Our Carpinteria City lifeguards participated in the Ben Carlson memorial paddle this week. California State lifeguards passed the relay boards on to our team of City lifeguards: Daniel Carrera, Kyle Millhollin, Anthony Weighill, and Carpinteria Summerland Firefighter Taylor Barnett. Our team passed the race boards on the City of Santa Barbara lifeguards. Ben Carlson was a Newport Beach lifeguard who lost his life during a rescue. Congratulations to Standout Staff Member Justin Main

The City of Carpinteria Aquatics team congratulates our Standout Staff Member for the month of August, Justin Main. Justin has worked for the city since 2021 as a pool lifeguard. Justin was a Carpinteria Junior Lifeguard, and he learned how to swim at Carpinteria Community Pool. When he is not working, he enjoys spending time at the beach and playing water polo. Justin will be heading to CSUMB in the fall to study computer science.

This program specifically targets small businesses that are ready to certify as a Green Business, or that are already certified, and will provide $1,000 for efficiency improvements! ARB to review Carpinteria Avenue mixed-use proposal

The Carpinteria Architectural Review Board will hold its next regular meeting on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 5:30 p.m. The board will hold a preliminary review of a proposed three-story commercial / residential mixed-use development that includes 24 apartment units (pictured). The property is located at 4745 Carpinteria Ave. and is presently occupied by Sun Coast Rentals.
