Embrace International Dark Sky Week!

On March 25, the Council unanimously approved the designation of April 2 – 8, 2024 as International Dark Sky Week.

International Dark Sky Week aims to raise awareness of light pollution, and provide free education, resources, and solutions to encourage the protection of and enjoyment of dark skies and to encourage responsible outdoor lighting

Light pollution affects Carpinteria’s natural places, harming nocturnal animals and overall ecosystem health. The City’s General Plan/Local Coastal Land Use Plan ensures that lighting of new development minimizes light pollution.

We urge residents to learn about night sky friendly lighting, to implement practices and improvements that will reduce light pollution, and to look up and experience the wonder of the star-filled night.
