We have a new date! This year’s free Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection event for the residents of Carpinteria has been postponed to Saturday, June 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at City Hall, 5775 Carpinteria Ave. Rain canceled our original April date for this event.

Please bring only accepted items. Acceptable items include:

• Furniture
• Appliances
• Electronic Waste
• Pesticides
• Automotive fluids and oils
• Fluorescent bulbs
• Medications
• And MORE!

Please limit liquids to 15 gallons total per vehicle.

This event is a drive-through service. To help the line move efficiently, residents are asked to separate household goods and hazardous materials and place them in an easily accessible location in their vehicle. Please remain in your vehicle—staff will remove items for you.

The City is not accepting tires, explosives, biozards or radioactive materials.

*Attention Businesses* ‼️Carpinteria Small Quantity Generators MUST have an appointment. Contact sustainability@carpinteriaca.gov to make an appointment (hazardous waste ID number required). Businesses without an appointment and Large Quantity Generators will be turned away.

On April 10, the Santa Barbara South Coast Chamber of Commerce hosted the annual State of the City luncheon, bringing together regional leaders to discuss local progress and future challenges.

Mayor Natalia Alarcon and City Manager Michael Ramirez represented the City of Carpinteria, speaking to the power of community partnerships, the City’s commitment to inclusivity, and the budgetary challenges facing Carpinteria.

The event underscored Carpinteria’s dedication to maintaining its unique character while navigating the complexities of modern municipal growth. Alarcon and Ramirez were joined by Councilmember Monica Solorzano and members of the City’s staff.

We were thrilled to be included in the annual State of the City and given the opportunity to tell our story!

From March 31 to April 3, over a dozen dedicated local teens spent their Spring Break completing the Teen CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training. To celebrate their commitment to safety, these graduates were recently honored with special commendations from the Carpinteria City Council and First District Supervisor Roy Lee’s office.

What is CERT? CERT is a nationally recognized program that trains volunteers in basic disaster response skills. These teens learned hands-on techniques in fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. This vital training ensures that in the event of a major emergency, our residents—even our youngest ones—are prepared to help themselves, their families, and their neighbors when professional responders may be delayed.

The City relied on invaluable support from community partners Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District, Carpinteria Boys & Girls Club and CERT to complete this important training.

Curious about the thunderous sounds from up north? On Wednesday, April 22, at 5 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Hall, 941 Walnut Ave., the Carpinteria Community Library is hosting an exclusive Vandenberg Mission Update. Colonel Horne and a team of experts from Vandenberg Space Force Base will provide a brief presentation on modern space launch operations and the science behind sonic booms. The evening concludes with a moderated Q&A session.

Be part of the conversation about the future of Carpinteria City Beach. At this workshop, you can:

• Learn about the science behind living shorelines
• Share how you use the beach and what you value most
• Talk with project scientists and City staff about changing shoreline conditions

Due to forecasted rain, this Saturday’s Annual Household Goods & Hazardous Waste Collection event has been CANCELED.

Rain conditions can compromise the safe handling of hazardous materials in an outdoor setting. Given the uncertainty in the forecast, the City has taken a precautionary approach to protect staff, participants, and the environment. Canceling in advance also helps avoid unnecessary costs and disruptions for partner agencies.

The event will be rescheduled for a date in late spring or early summer. Additional details will be shared in the coming weeks.
