Seniors invited to tour to the Alcazar

Carpinteria’s theater has 96 years of colorful history to its name, and Carpinteria seniors are invited to tour the historic space on Saturday, May 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A program of AgeWell, the Alcazar Theater excursion will include a tour and a special performance. Meet at the theater, 4916 Carpinteria Ave., to participate in the free event.

Information Session about the US Citizenship Process

Are you interested in becoming a US citizen but don’t know where to start or how to navigate some of the challenges? Join us at the Carpinteria Community Library on Saturday, May 4 at 11:30 a.m. for an Information Session About the US Citizenship Process. The workshop is free and presented in collaboration with IMPORTA, a non-profit organization authorized by the U.S. Department of Justice to provide immigration legal services.

Wild Things focuses on wetlands, May 2

On Thursday, May 2, Carpinteria Community Library continues its monthly Wild Things series with a talk by John Callender on the history and ecological importance of Carpinteria’s wetland. Attendees will learn all about what makes the Carpinteria Salt Marsh Reserve special. Wild Things is held on the first Thursday of every month at 6 p.m. This program, like everything at the Community Library, 5141 Carpinteria Ave., is offered at no cost and is open to all.

Join our lifeguard team!

The City of Carpinteria is preparing to hire several seasonal beach and pool lifeguards—a great part-time job for strong swimmers who like to work outside. Qualified applicants must be at least 15 years old to be a pool lifeguard and 16 years old to be a beach lifeguard. Applicants must also pass a swim test. You can sign up for a swim test here. Applicants who pass the swim test and an interview will be invited back for lifeguard training.

Alcazar Theatre turns 96!

The Carpinteria City Council recognizes the Alcazar Theatre’s 96th anniversary! Built in 1928, the theater has served the community for decades, showcasing movies, concerts and performances by stars like Judy Garland. In 2010, the theater reopened under community nonprofit management, offering concerts, live theater, and a stage for all. The beloved volunteer-run venue invites the community to a free 96th anniversary celebration on Wednesday, April 24 at 5 p.m.

Free event showcases local writers

Twelve Carpinteria writers will read excerpts from their books on Saturday, April 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Carpinteria Community Library. Free and open to the public, the event will showcase the talents of many locals.
