Are you in a PSPS area of concern?

Southern California Edison has warned it may initiate a Public Safety Power Outage that affects Carpinteria residents.

To find out if your home is within the area of concern, visit the SCE webpage at https://www.sce.com/outage-center/check-outage-status. Type in your address to determine whether your home is within the areas under consideration for an outage.

These outages are intended to reduce the risk of fire ignition when dangerous weather conditions present themselves: heavy winds and low humidity.

In preparation for an outage, the City of Carpinteria and SCE have established a community resource center where residents can meet with SCE staff to have their questions answered. The community resource center will be open between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. and is located in the Veterans Hall Meeting Room at 941 Walnut Ave.

Vegetation clearing begins for bridge replacement

Vegetation clearing work began this week as a first step in the Carpinteria Avenue Bridge Replacement Project. Built in 1937, the Carpinteria Avenue bridge over Carpinteria Creek has been deemed structurally deficient and will be replaced with a new bridge that includes wider sidewalks, better visibility for drivers and improved creek flow capacity.

The work underway now is in preparation for the relocation of the overhead utility facilities, a precursor to bridge construction. Vegetation clearing is expected to take approximately three weeks and will only affect the north side of Carpinteria Avenue Bridge along the east and west creek banks.

The full replacement project is estimated to cost $10-$15 million dollars, 88.5% of which will be paid for through the Federal Highway Bridge Fund.
