Frida festivities moved to Library

Come by the Carpinteria Community Library on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in your Frida Kahlo finery to Celebrate Carpinteria and Hispanic Heritage Month! We’ll be making Frida pins, painting on mini canvases, and creating colorful Mexican paper flowers. Everyone who attends gets a bag of fresh popcorn from our popcorn machine, and if you come dressed as Frida you’ll receive a special gift. (Sorry, no pets!)

Carpinteria City Hall will be temporarily closed during the following times for staff meetings:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 23,  11:30 AM – 1 PM
  • Thursday, Oct. 2, 8:30 – 10:30 AM

Join us for our 60th anniversary resolution

A new session of Sunday Swim Lessons is about to open

Registration opens Monday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. for Carpinteria Community Pool’s upcoming Sunday Swim Lessons – Session 3!

Program Details:

  • Dates: October 12 – November 9 (4 Sundays)
    No class on October 19 due to a facility rental.
  • Times: 10:30 a.m. – 3:40 p.m.
  • Ages: 3 years and up (group lessons Levels 1–3 and private lessons available)

In addition, we’re offering one Parent & Child class, where a parent/guardian joins their child (ages 9 months – 3 years) in the water for guided instruction and fun.

Important Notes:

  • If a mid-day class does not receive registrations, we may adjust the schedule by moving another class into that time slot to minimize instructor downtime.
  • Each class requires a minimum number of participants. If enrollment does not meet this requirement, the class will be canceled.

September is Suicide Prevention Month

September is Suicide Prevention Month, a time for our community to come together and address the critical issue of suicide as a public health concern.

The City of Carpinteria is committed to raising awareness and providing resources to help those struggling with anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges.

We honor the great work being done by Santa Barbara County Department of Behavior Wellness, County Public Health and HopeNet of Carpinteria, and appreciates the resources and services they offer to the Carpinteria community in preventing suicide.

Celebrate Community Week: Sept. 8-14

The City of Carpinteria is proud to declare September 8-14 as Celebrate Community Week! This week highlights the important work of local service clubs like Lions, Rotary and others. These organizations are joining forces on projects that address key community needs, including health and wellness, food insecurity, education and the environment.

We thank these dedicated volunteers for their tireless efforts. Their partnerships and collaborative spirit are what make our community stronger. The Carpinteria City Council unanimously approved a Celebrate Community Week proclamation at its Sept. 8 meeting and is pictured here with representatives of local service organizations.

HopeNet to hold Annual Candlelight Vigil and Mental Health & Wellness Faire

HopeNet of Carpinteria, a grass-roots suicide prevention organization, will hold two events, the Annual Candlelight Vigil and the Mental Health & Wellness Faire, on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at the Lynda Fairly Carpinteria Arts Center located at 865 Linden Ave.

The Annual Candlelight Vigil program in recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day will begin at 6 p.m. in honor and memory of those who have died by suicide, survivors and those affected by suicide and to increase awareness and sensitivity about suicide and suicide prevention. The program includes speakers, candles, a moment of silence, information tables and resources. Bilingual therapists and Spanish translation will be offered.

The Mental Health & Wellness Faire will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. It will bring together many organizations who work with children, youth, parents and/or seniors to share resources and an opportunity to speak to staff members or volunteers about their services.

Pickleball and tennis courts to reopen after Sept. 8

The restriping project at the Carpinteria Middle School tennis and pickleball courts is now expected to be complete after Sept. 8. When the courts reopen, both will have pickleball and tennis lines!

Please remember that the start of school brings adjustments to public availability of the pickleball and tennis courts at CMS. After the courts are striped and reopened, they will be open to the public on weekdays after school until dusk and on weekends from dawn to dusk.
