Staff field trip to inform new interpretive signs

This camel vertebra is local! It’s from Carpinteria in the Pleistocene. Carpinteria’s own sticky trap—like the La Brea Tar Pits—preserved intriguing pieces of our region’s prehistory. Our Parks & Rec staff recently visited @sbnature on a research trip to look at a wide variety of specimens from the Carpinteria Tar Pits held in the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History’s Earth Science Collections. We’re looking forward to seeing some of these pictured on a new interpretive sign in the works, so that visitors to the site today can get a peek into the past.
