Senior Lectures May Calendar

Every Thursday at 9:30 a.m., Carpinteria seniors are feeding their curiosity and loading up on learning at the weekly Senior Lecture held at the Carpinteria Veterans Memorial Hall, 941 Walnut Ave. These free lectures are all delivered by knowledgeable presenters, and each one is tailored to Carpinteria’s community of lifelong learners. Check out what’s coming up below:

  • May 9: Books and Beyond, the Many Resources of the Library: We know that the library is full of books, but did you know how much more it has to offer? Join Jody Thomas, our city librarian, as she shows us all that our library has to offer. We will explore downloadable books, specialized online services, the library of things, and, of course, books.
  • May 16: Don’t Waste your Waste, Composting, Recycling, and More: Lindsay Erdmann from Civic Spark and the City of Carpinteria will teach us the dos and don’ts of waste. Come improve your composting skills and get reminded why it is so important.  Become aware of what is safe to throw away and clear up common misconceptions about recycling.
  • May 23: Age Proofing Your Home: As we age, our homes should continue to be a place where we feel safe, secure and comfortable. To help prevent falls and other accidents, you can make safety modifications to your environment and eliminate common hazards. Learn from the professionals at NurseCore how to make your home as safe and secure as possible with this informative presentation.
  • May 30: Amazing Birds Right in your Backyard: Birding can sound complicated, but it’s a simple hobby you can take up anytime, anywhere. And you can make as much or as little of it as you like. Join Carpinteria birder John Callender as he talks to us about the birds in our backyard and his favorite hobby.
