Everyone ages 10 and up can have fun learning basic kayaking, boating safety and snorkeling skills. Certified ocean lifeguards instruct students on techniques while they explore the nearby Carpinteria Reef and kelp beds. Waterproof cameras are recommended as students may free dive from anchored kayaks. All students are provided wetsuits and safety equipment. Snorkeling gear is not provided, but is available at the Carpinteria Beach Store (located adjacent to the volleyball courts on Linden Avenue) for a 25% discount with proof of enrollment.
Kayak rentals are available weekends and afternoons beginning the first week of July through Labor Day. The cost is $15 per hour per person (children under 12 years are $10 per hour if accompanied by a paying adult). First come, first served starting at 10:30 am at Ash Avenue on the beach. All rentals include life vest, paddle and helmet.
